Attacks on Free speech

Thank you to the Canadian blog: ProWomanProLife
to alerting me to the threat to free speech that is occurring. For more information check out the blog (p.s. if you enjoy the blog as much as I do please vote for them for the Canadian bloggie awards) but I will give you a basic rundown of what happened. Pro-life groups are being told they can not hold up signs showing the realities of abortion, because they are too graphic. I would like to point out that as a life activist I do not use graphic images. However, this is a college campus, not an elementary school. These are adults and if they are old enough to have an abortion then they should be old enough to see what the aftermath looks like. Not to mention that you don't have to be pro-life to be outraged by the University's decision. You just have to enjoy free speech and want others (even those whom you may disagree with) to be able to enjoy that as well.
So, please take a look at this well-written sensible blog.

Agreed. These scare tactics will not deter the bravery of pro-life campus groups.

Personally, I don't think ANY subsidised institution should have special-interest groups. Taxpayers expect all who go through the universities to come out as useful, productive citizens, not angry leftists who hate their parents. That being said, the prohibition of free speech is nothing short of appalling. That's the kind of thing that might occur in Egypt, Iran or North Korea, not in a country that supposedly has freedom of expression.

As an animal rights activist who has also faced free speech battles, I completely support the pro-life activists who fight for their right to speak. Often it is the pro-life activists who win groundbreaking battles so that all can speak freely on pubic property.

Speaking as a leftist liberal, I am ashamed whenever someone supposedly "liberal" tries to silence those with whom they disagree.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." --Voltaire (a liberal humanist!)

Thanks for the comments everyone, they were very well said. To be fair though, people on both the left and the right restrict free speech. It is becoming quite a problem.
